“My goal is to prioritize storytelling. I view theatre, visual art and music as inherently inseparable and view them as a joyous conglomerate of creation. My background in songwriting and musical theatre gives my compositions accessibility, while my studies and individual research give me tools to understand and speak the language of contemporary music.” - Vaida Vovere

composing for theatre
My history of participation in musical theatre has shaped me as a composer. Because of the Contemporary Physical Performance Making cohort coming to EAMT, I had the chance to meet Juuli - a Finnish performer, whose background is also in musicals. We collaborated in creating a performance about her struggles with eczema and topical steroid withdrawal. I created the music live using recorded and deconstructed mouth and body sounds. The premiere was in September 2025 in Kanuti Guild Hall.
